Acts of Creation: A Hybrid Undergraduate Conference

The Department of English Language and Literature at Bilkent University (Ankara, Turkey) invites submissions for ‘Acts of Literary Creation,’ an undergraduate conference to be held Friday, 19 April, 2024. Submissions for online and in-person presentations are welcome.

From storytelling and architectural design to moviemaking and economic production, the act of creating is intimately tied to our senses of self and community. What is creativity? What constitutes a creation? What constitutes a creature? What are the political implications of the act of creation? How might an attention to creativity impact our understandings of the history of literary thought?

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Humanism – posthumanism
  • Questions of consciousness
  • Monsters and monstrosity
  • Ephemeral / marginal creations
  • Media studies
  • Animal studies
  • Ecocriticism
  • Object studies
  • Book history
  • Commodity fetishism
  • Creating identities
  • Creating spaces
  • The process of creation
  • Creating adaptations

Submission Guidelines:

The conference committee invites proposals for fifteen-minute research papers or creative projects from a diverse range of disciplines. Please submit an abstract (200 words) and a biographical note (100 words) to bilkentalc2024@gmail.com by Friday, January 19, 2024. Acceptance decisions will be sent out in February 2024.
