**Publication Requirement for Graduation

In order to graduate, students must fulfill at least one of the following publication requirements, provided that the publication is derived from the doctoral dissertation:

  1. An article published in a journal indexed by SCIE, SSCI, AHCI, ESCI, or Scopus.
  2. A book or book chapter published by an international publishing house*.
  • The publication must state Boğaziçi University as the institutional affiliation of both the doctoral student and the advisor. If part of the dissertation work was carried out at another institution where the student was employed, that institution may be listed as a secondary affiliation.
  • Articles with a DOI number are considered as published articles.
  • A single publication derived from a dissertation cannot be submitted as the product of more than one dissertation.
  • Even if the student successfully defends the dissertation, the graduation decision will not be issued by the institute unless the publication requirement has been fulfilled.

*This requirement will come into effect on September 1, 2027.

**For graduate students of the Faculty of Law, Department of Translation and Interpreting Studies, Department of Linguistics, and Turkish Language and Literature, publications indexed in TR-Dizin are also accepted.

***The publishing house must be included in the list of international publishers approved by the University Senate.

Academic departments may set additional requirements with the approval of the relevant institute board.

Introduction to doctoral studies in English Literature. Approaches to advanced literary research. Development of research projects. Theoretical frameworks and scholarly discourse. Contextualization of literary texts. Academic writing and presentation skills. Book/literature reviews, conference presentations, and publications.

 

EL 700            Graduate Seminar (0+1+0) 0 ECTS 5

Research techniques. Academic writing practices. Publication ethics. Annotated bibliography. Conference abstract. Book review. Statement of purpose. Grant proposal. Sample syllabus.

 

EL 680-689, 691-694, 696-699 Special Topics in English Literature (4+0+0) 4 ECTS 10

Doctoral-level research and writing. Focused study in a specialized field. Topics not covered in existing courses or seminars.

 

EL 790            PhD Thesis                             ECTS 120

Independent doctoral research in a specific topic in English Literature. Original and substantial scholarly work supervised by academic advisor. Public defense and presentation of contributions to the field.
