Kerem Deren
Born in Istanbul in 1972, he attended Robert College for high school and studied at Connecticut College and Boğaziçi University for his undergraduate education. He completed his master’s degrees in Playwriting at Goldsmiths College, University of London, and in Cinema at Bilgi University. Upon returning to Turkey, he wrote his first TV drama, Sınıf. Later, he gained widespread acclaim with Ezel, which received numerous awards and was considered a milestone in the Turkish TV industry for its script and production.
Following Ezel, he designed and wrote Uçurum, a series about human trafficking. In 2013, he wrote the dramatic thriller series 20 Dakika. In September of the same year, he directed the film Bi Küçük Eylül Meselesi, which he also wrote. Since 2013, he has been working within Yazı Odası, a creative writers’ collective and content production company that he founded.
Since 2014, he has been teaching as a part-time lecturer in the Department of Western Languages and Literatures at Boğaziçi University.
